Jeff O'Connor Lifelong Strong Workshop

Sunday September 25th

8 to 5

Way of Strength Training Center

Hopefully with your blessing, I will skip the introduction of what everyone's favorite Master RKC can do for you and your clients. I will also forgo the introduction of Jeff himself....as it would be nearly impossible for me to believe that anyone reading this blog would not know who he is and what he brings to the training floor. Just in case you can check out his site here. This workshop is targeted at inductee's into the RKC School of Strength.

Ahem...kinda nice just getting the facts without the monster truck marketing so prevalent in our industry....ehh...

Jeff will cover his FMS Fortified patented (only if) mobility and athletic prowess progressions. This is his "zero to hero" material that will be of immediate next morning use for you and your clients. Attendees will be expected to have a solid handle of RKC principles and thus the workshop will only be open to RKC's, HKC's or those who have trained with them. Note that RKC's and HKC's get a discount! Also, if you sign 3 folks up with you then you can come for free! Seriously this is great material that we need to get it out there!

Included in the price is a manual and as a bonus Jeff has agreed to free up the afternoon a bit for attendee directed material! That's right, your folks call! So when you sign up, type up what you would like to see in the "additional comments" section and we will do our best to work it in! We will do Jason's Deli boxes for lunch and you can sign up for the workshop below:

I screwed up....

I was supposed to end the extreme early-bird price for the Summit on Friday the 6th....but I did not get a chance to inform everyone of the change. Between the new facility, the upcoming state sporting clays championship, RKC and CK-FMS duties I fell behind on the web-side of life.

So here is what I am going to do....I am extending the extreme early-bird deadline until May the 20th!

You can still qualify for the super cheap rate here: www.summitofstrength

Time for a few more updates....

...Then off to St. Paul for the RKC weekend. (I can hardly wait to meet Team Rippetoe).

Agenda for today:

  1. Answer PM and email inquiry's [Thanks for the questions, btw!]
  2. Order Vans for shuttle service. [We try to make travel super-stress free. All attendees have to do is make it to the host hotel]
  3. Finalize T-Shirt Design and contact the shirt folks. [Everyone loved last years design and wanted to buy extras which we didn't have. This years is better.]
  4. Edit the Summit page. [I am obviously not a professional editor....do what I can. Does Ad Copy matter anyway? With the low price and over the top quality it kinda speaks for itself.] www.summitofstrength.com
  5. Lift some heavy stuff repeatedly.
  6. Prep teaching material for RKC!
Grow Stronger,

Dustin

Summit of Strength 2011

This years SOS is in full blown prep mode...we had 20 sign-up before we officially announced the event (a little bonus we gave last years attendees).

The event will be a blast and better in many ways than last years. Considering the positive comments we received last year that is something.

I will be blogging "behind the scenes updates" here frequently so stay tuned...

Sayoc Kali

I recently started a couple of new disciplines: Sayoc Kali and Traditional Archery. I will blog about Archery a bit later. The adoption of both these practices came at the urging of Master RKCs. I know, I know I need more stuff to do but there is something to be said for continually development. For some reason, Kenzie seems less annoyed when a get into a new past-time when O'Connor or Uncle Tamer thinks it would be good for me....something to remember!

Kenzie and I went to Nashville for an HKC, tattoos and hang time with Mrs and Mr Irontamer this past December. Among the fun and food and frivolity, David and I started talking all things martial (not uncommon) especially Filipino Martial Arts. I have very, very little exposure to FMAs. Talk lead to contact (not uncommon) and something clicked. The Sayoc system came up and got the Uncle Tamer devil horns of approval. We "played" a bit more and I was hooked. [One notable occurrence was the utter destruction of my blackberry screen despite being in my coat chest pocket and expensive protective case from a well placed thrust of a training blade.]

When I got back to the sooner state I began a search for instructors and not only found one but found one next door to my previous training location. Jason Epps at Premier Martial Arts. Weird how the universe works...oh yeah he was looking for some Kettlebell info/instruction...yep, weird ;) I will talk about '"arm-twisting" O'Connor had to do on me for the Archery habit in a future post.

A little background on Sayoc [The Following is from the wikipedia article on Sayoc Kali]:

"Sayoc Kali is an edged weapon based style of Filipino Martial Arts. It is a family system, headed by Christopher Sayoc, Sr.. The motto of the style is, "All Blade, All the Time".

The Sayoc family lineage links back to General Licerio Topacio, of Cavite. General Topacio was the military engineer of the Katipunan secret society and was among the first Katipunan members to urge Supremo Andres Bonifacio to wage a revolution against Spain.[1]

Sayoc Kali is taught as part of the more general Sayoc Fighting System, which includes sword, stick, tomahawk, karambit and whip. Sayoc Kali emphasizes the use of the blade. It includes techniques for single knife, multiple knives, projectiles, and secondary support to firearms. Empty hand training is under the Sayoc Silak curriculum.

Sayoc Kali presents itself as an evolving system. The Sayoc family hosted a number of Filipino Martial Arts masters who travelled to the east coast of the United States during the 1970s and learned Filipino Martial Arts from them. Interaction and training from these Filipino Martial Arts masters gave the Sayoc family the idea of creating Sayoc Kali."
